Privacy Policy

If you are just looking

Browsing the directory needs no account and we build no profile of you. There is no third-party advertising tracker on this site, and no analytics script from anybody else.

We count what happens on a business's page so we can tell that business how it is doing. Opening the page, tapping the phone button, opening the map, and clicking through to their website. They see totals against their own business. They never learn who you are, because we never know.

To count one person once instead of once per reload, your browser holds a single cookie containing a random number we generated. It is not your name, your email or your address. Nothing about you or your device went into making it, and after 30 days it is replaced with a different one. Scripts on the page cannot read it, it goes nowhere but here, and we neither sell nor share it. Known automated traffic is filtered out before anything is counted.

We keep no device fingerprint and no record of which site sent you here. Your IP address is used for a few minutes to slow down automated traffic, and it is never written down.

Your browser may also store your light or dark preference locally so the page does not flash the wrong one. That never reaches us.

If you have an account

Signing in is by six-digit code sent to your email address, so we hold no password. A signed-in session is a cookie, and signing out ends it.

An account holds:

• Your email address, and your name and phone number if you have given them
• Your bids, placements, boosts and billing history
• Any subscription you hold for a business page you manage
• Performance figures for your placements, such as clicks
• The emails we have sent you about your placements, so we do not send one twice

We ask for a phone number so a human can reach the person who paid when email bounces or a placement is disputed. It is not published and it is not the business's public number.

Payments

Stripe processes every payment. Card numbers go to Stripe and never reach our servers. We store what Stripe tells us: that a payment succeeded, the amount, any discount applied, and the identifiers we need to match it to your placement or subscription.

Stripe's own privacy policy covers what they hold and for how long.

The newsletter

If you subscribe, we hold your email address, how often you asked to hear from us, and where you signed up. We confirm the address before sending anything, so a subscription you did not ask for never starts.

Every email carries an unsubscribe link that works without signing in. Unsubscribing stops the sending immediately.

Business listings

The directory includes businesses that have no relationship with us. Names, addresses, phone numbers, categories, aggregate ratings and review counts come from the Google Places API. We store the rating and the number of reviews. We do not store review text.

If you own a business and want its listing corrected or removed, email us and we will do it.

What is public

The board is public by design. A placement shows the business name, headline, logo and link you submitted, the amount standing behind it, and its click count. Anyone can see them, including search engines.

Your name, email address and phone number are never shown on the board. Do not put anything in a business name or headline that you would not want indexed.

Who we share with

We use a small number of suppliers, and nobody else sees your data:

• Stripe, for checkout, subscriptions and payment records
• Resend, to deliver the emails we send you
• Google Places, for the directory data described above
• Mapbox, which serves the map tiles when you open the map
• Our host and database provider, so the site can run

We do not sell personal data, and we do not share it for anybody else's advertising. We disclose data if the law requires it, or to enforce our terms.

How long we keep it

• Billing records: as long as tax and accounting rules require.
• Placements and the payments behind them: while they are live, and afterwards as part of the board's history.
• Click counts: kept as totals against a business, with no visitor attached.
• Newsletter records: until you unsubscribe, plus the record that you did.

Your choices

Ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email hello@horizonwestguide.com and we will answer. We keep billing records for as long as the law requires and delete the rest on request.

Removing a placement does not undo the payment behind it, and content you also publish on your own website does not become private by being taken off our board.

Children

This is a service for businesses and adults. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has given us data, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes

We update this policy when the site or the law changes. The date at the top of the page is the current version.
